It was an interesting summer for football fans, hyped up rookies, veterans not being signed, Lamar Jackson, and the work of the players to dethrone the Eagles . Looking at hyped rookies every team has one. It could be Baker Mayfield on the Cleveland Browns throwing dots in his preseason debuts. Saquan Barkley running 39 yards on his first NFL carry, and seeing Lamar Jackson showing Baltimore fans his talent on the gridiron. The 2018 season is app on us.
The 2017 Heisman Winner and a Super Bowl MVP
Lamar Jackson, through most of the preseason has shown dominance on the ground like he did in college and an arm that with some development, can become the thunder to his lighting fast speed. During a preseason game vs Miami Dolphins Lamar took most of the snaps. He played his best game. He passed for 98 yards and a nice TD pass to former CFL star DeVeir Posey. On the ground, Lamar scrambled three times for a total of 39 yards and a diving TD score. Looking at the Ravens QB future, Flacco should start in 2018 with a fire under him because it’s a contract year, Lamar Jackson should be ready to start and thrive in 2019 or 2020, also Flacco finally he has the best receiving core he has had since the Super Bowl 37 run.
The First 2nd overall pick RB since Reggie Bush
Another future star is Saquan Barkley. This man is an absolute beast. He was the second pick in this year’s draft and when you take a running back that early you know he is one special player. Barkley was the face of Penn State football, one of the best programs in the country, Barkley ran for over 1200 yards and scored 18 rushing TDs. Saquan has excellent speed. He ran a 4.4 second 40-yard dash at the combine. He is big enough to shed tackles in the open field and right at the line of scrimmage. He also possesses elite footwork which allows him to be extremely elusive and make great cuts. He has all the tools for greatness. Saquan. should take the load off Eli and OBJ.
Dez’s getting the X
Looking at supposed “washed up” veterans this offseason Dez Bryant has been that player. He turned down a 4-year deal from the Baltimore Ravens before the summer started and then began to journey, having meetings with a lot of teams. The Steelers hosted Dez, but nothing came out of that. He worked out for the Browns recently and is now an afterthought and most likely won’t be signed. Dez Bryant turned down a good offer from the Ravens and then was stuck. He most likely will head to Jacksonville with starting receiver Marquise Lee on IR from a preseason injury
Bears add another Midway Monster
About a week before the regular season started the Chicago Bears shocked the NFL. They acquired All Pro DE and LB, Khalil Mack. Mack was the heart and soul every since being drafted by the Raiders a few years back. Mack was at one point a LB and even recived probowl honors as a LB. He became a DE 2 years ago and their was no drop in intensity. Mack was the sure leader of the Raiders defense which went 12-4 during the 2016 season. Mack and the Raiders have been in a contract dispute but it didnt appear bad. Obviously both sides have had enough. Mack was traded to Chi-town for 1st round picks(2019,2020). The Bears are now a threat to the Packers and Vikings for the NFC North. Looking at their offense Trubisky has all the weapons. Acquiring Allen Robinson in free agency, He was injured in 2017-2018 season. In 2015 and 2016 Robinson was tremendous with Sub Par QB, Blake Bortles. Robinson had 1400 yards and 14 TDS in 2015. In 2016 he had 883 yards and 6 TDS. In 2016 Robinson was in a very talented WR team the ball was spread out more and the team wasn’t very good. Robinson should get targets like his 2015 campaign. Another weapon for Trubisky is ”Philly Philly” TD passer, Trey burton, Burton has been a back up in Philly for his career. He learned both sides of the position from veterans Zach Ertz and Brett Celek. He’s shown flashes during his time on the roster. He had 629 yards and 6 TDS in his four NFL seasons. With new coach from Kanas City, Matt Nagy, Burton could easily become as talent as Travis Kelce. The Bears are gonna make a jump from pretender to Contender.
